Eye-fi Wireless Memory Card

Posted in Doesn't Suck on March 8th, 2009 by Josh

Eye-fi Anniversary edition I’ve been using the eye-fi card for a few months now and I love the thing. I wholeheartedly recommend picking one of these up if you shoot pictures (and now video!) using a digital camera that supports SDHC cards (which is most modern consumer cameras). So what does this thing do and what makes it so great? Basically it’s like any other memory card, you take pictures and it stores them; the big difference is what happens after that… Read more »

Zicam Nasal Swabs

Posted in Doesn't Suck on December 22nd, 2008 by Josh

Some of you may recall my less-than-stellar review of the Zicam nasal gel remedy. Well, I was fortunate enough to be infected with a cold this year so I thought I’d take the opportunity to try a different Zicam delivery mechanism. Enter the Zicam Nasal Swab. First let me say that “Nasal Swab” does not sound like a product I want to try, so it was with a heavy heart and gentle hand that I tested my first swab. Read more »

oobgolf live scoring via iPhone

Posted in Doesn't Suck on April 5th, 2008 by Josh

Before I get into the review I will point out that I am fully aware that my golf game sucks, unfortunately I am not yet wealthy enough to not need to work so it will likely continue to be fairly horrible for a while. With that out of the way this review is of using an iPhone (which I love) to enter scores realtime on oobgolf.com (which I also love). Read on for all the details and lots of screenshots. A to Z 2005 Pinot Noir

Posted in Doesn't Suck on April 5th, 2008 by Josh

Opened a bottle of A to Z 2005 Pinot Noir tonight with a ribeye which I prepared using a fantastic hawaiian seasoning (thai basil, maui sea salt, cane sugar, candied ginger). You can supposedly buy the seasoning from the Maui Culinary Academy (they make it) but their website is beyond horrible so I couldn’t find it to link for you. After the jump I stop yammering and get on with the wine review. Read more »

Scott toilet paper is great stuff, excellent hand and crumples just perfectly. I find the texture to be a marvelous balance of soft and strong without being overly thick. Read more »

2003 Turley Dogtown Vineyard Zinfandel

Posted in Doesn't Suck on March 29th, 2008 by Josh

2003 Turley Dogtown Vineyard Zinfandel When some of you hear the word zinfandel you are going to think of a dreadful pink “wine” which is pretty much unfit for drinking. Zinfandel is a grape variety grown in California, in fact it might be “the american grape” in my book. Zinfandel can be bastardized into the white zinfandel fruit punch that used to be so popular a few years back. However, when made into red wine zinfandel produces a wonderfully spicy and bold red which goes fantastically with grilled foods. Read more »

Seasoned Ribeye with Garlic-Lime Butter

Posted in Doesn't Suck on March 29th, 2008 by Josh

Seasoned Ribeye Steaks With the advent of grilling season I thought I’d try something I’m typically somewhat opposed to, applying some heavy seasoning to a couple of steaks before throwing them on the grill. I tend to be somewhat of a purist when it comes to cooking red meat and like to stick with salt and pepper with a pan sauce if I’m looking for flavor beyond what the meat itself and cooking method provide. More about preparation after the jump Read more »

Tivoli Audio Model 1

Posted in Doesn't Suck on March 27th, 2008 by Josh

Tivoli Audio Model 1  The Tivoli Audio Model 1 is a fantastic table radio, I received mine as a Christmas present a few years back and I couldn’t be more happy with it. The audio is really very good for a radio of this size, I’d say compared to a bose wave radio it’s head and shoulders better. The tuner is also fantastic the knob allows for very fine tuning of stations and even simply using its built in antenna I can pull in pretty much any station I want to without too much trouble. Tuning is assisted by a small yellow LED that glows brighter as you get the signal dialed-in well.

Appearance-wise I think the radio is very classy looking, it fits in well with most decor and doesn’t scream “electronic thing” like the bose other radios in it’s class do. No argument from the wife  Read more »

Barkeepers Friend

Posted in Doesn't Suck on March 27th, 2008 by Josh

Bar Keepers Friend  I can’t recommend this stuff highly enough. I use it on just about anything that is kind of hard to clean. It’s great for cookware (don’t be a moron and use it on teflon), if you have any all-clad pans (and you should) this stuff is absolutely unbeatable for cleaning it. I cook a fair amount of red meat by first pan-searing it and then moving the pan into the oven. By the time I’m done with the process and we have eaten our meal (and likely waited until the next day), getting the pan clean with a soap and sponge or even a brillo pad is exceedingly difficult. A little of this stuff and a sponge and you can get damn near anything off a stainless pan. Things I use bar keepers friend on:

  • All-clad copper core pans (or any stainless steel pan)
  • Sinks (porcelain or stainless steel)
  • Copper cookware
  • Aluminum cookware
  • Tools that have a little rust on them (wipe them off with oil afterwards)
  • Kittens (only cute ones)
